The Gretton Village Association, or GVA, is a registered charity which was formed in 1998 by the amalgamation of three old Gretton charities , Gretton Ward, Gretton Village Hall and Gretton Playing Field.
The object of the charity is to provide or to assist in providing for the inhabitants of the area of benefit, facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation. The area of benefit is defined as Gretton, Gretton Fields, Alderton Fields, Stanley Pontlarge, Far Stanley , Middle Stanley , Greet and Littleworth.
The land and property are held in trust for the charity by the Official Custodian for Charities but the GVA management committee is responsible for the day to day running and upkeep of both the Village Hall and the Playing field.
The committee consists of six members who are elected at the AGM, usually held in October, and also representative members from all of the local groups such as Gretton Primary School Gretton Parish Council, Gretton WI etc.
The management committee meet six times a year to discuss the general condition of the hall and field and also to ensure that the hall is run efficiently.
The GVA also produce the Gretton Gazette which is a Newsletter issued every other month giving news from all the local groups and keeping residents informed of village activities and forthcoming events.
In 2004, following various open meetings exhibitions and consultations, a decision was taken to extend and refurbish the old Hall to provide improved facilities for the community. Since that date the GVA have been working very hard to raise the necessary funding to implement that decision.
Building work is now well advanced on the new hall and it is hoped that it will be ready for occupation in late August.
