Saxon The village name derives from the description ‘a farmstead near Greet’
Norman Pilgrim route from the west via Stanley Pontlarge to Winchcombe passes through Greeton
13thcentury Grant of ‘a courtleet, with waifs and felons’ goods’ plus land is given to the Knights Templar by King Henry III
1307 John and Alice de Besmamicele grant Greeton to the Abbey at Tewkesbury
c.1400 Chapel bell struck
Late Medieval The Chapel of Ease is built
Tudor: 1509 Henry VII grants the manor to Winchcombe Abbey for an annual rent of £60
1539 Dissolution of Winchcombe Abbey; this includes the hundred of Greston in which Gretton lies.  King Henry VIII claims ownership.
1574/75 Elizabeth I rides through Gretton on her way from Dixton Manor to Sudeley Castle
1580 Tithe-rights of hay and corn belong to Tewkesbury Abbey

Stuart:1608 Written evidence that there are 33 able bodied men in the village

17thcentury: dwellings built include: Orchard Cottage, Oak Cottage, Lynch Lane Farmhouse, Yew Tree Cottage, Gardener’s Cottage, Well House, Tudor Cottage, Willow Cottage and Upper School Cottage

1812 The Methodist Chapel opens

Victorian:1856 James Agg, rural messenger, trudges knee deep in mud along ‘Dirty Lane’, Gretton
1862 The school opens
1868 A new parish church opens
1883-84 Fountain and water supplied via standpipes
1892 A new school opens
1894 Improvements are made to the water supply through the use of a ‘very satisfactory’ water diviner
